West Marin artist Ernesto Sanchez creates glittering sculptures, multimedia altars and mask dances that tug at the collective unconscious. As his vision deteriorates in one eye, he is focusing his work on a newfound, though ancient, symbol. Read more here.
Ernesto performs at the 2017 Geography of Hope Conference. This year's theme was "Ancestors and the Land: Our Past, Present, and Future" held in Point Reyes, California.
Ernesto explains his process as mask maker and dancer. "The art lies in capturing the spirit and character in the mask...It's alive because it embodies spirit and character."
