My two most important tools. The open hand is a symbol of trust and protection and the eye is a symbol of intuition.  When sculpting I often feel as though I have eyes in my hands, and that has been very useful as my sight has waned.  The open hand is an ancient symbol, used in Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Jewish and Islamic religions (the “hamsa,” used to ward off the evil eye).  When I finished this piece, I looked at it and it reminded me of a tarot card from some mysterious deck.
